Bots & Gas is a cross-disciplinary music and artistic duo consisting out of Alexandros Papamarkou and Mariah Blue. Their debut album, Roses Rest, is their first music collaboration and from the start a very daring and promising one.

During the making of the album they have been inspired by alternative forms of song writing. The song content has come from a text predicting algorithm, channeled sources, spirits and aliens contacted through automatic writing and the Ouija board. So in the most literal sense we can speak of “ghost writing” here (lol, but no joke!).

Experiments were made with different poly-rhythmic structures, analog synths, circuit bent keyboards, tape loops and self-sampled
material in order to create an atmospheric and organic whole. Phasing effects were explored and applied such as a slowly drum phase developing through out a whole track or voice phasing with multiple tracks.

The record interweaves experimental pop, dance, multi-layered (choral) a capella singing, spoken word and even an electronic ballad written by a nineteenth century ghost. They drew inspiration by the likes of Kate Bush and Talking Heads amongst many others, living and dead.

Currently Bots & Gas live and work in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
